If you are working with Ubuntu and testing the latest release of the distribution then you can help improve the PulseAudio driver for Wine.
I have created a version of the wine1.2 package that includes the native PulseAudio driver for Wine. This package is targeted at the Karmic distribution, so if you are testing out the new release can you try this package and see if it improves the Wine sound on Ubuntu for you.
If you try it, can you report back your experiences in Launchpad please, rather than winehq.
