My personal opinion is that if Wine is going to provide any real support for pulseaudio that a new driver is suitable, like with NAS or ESD. However, it would be nice if pulseaudio would play nice with winealsa (which is not the case currently, nor is it an issue with Wine). If pulseaudio improves its ALSA layer (e.g. making it work beyond "here's a stream I want you to play", I suspect buffering issues are the main problem), Wine may not need any special work at all.

If Wine developers are going to commit a new audio driver, it should be (almost) complete. It's been said before, but we don't need another half-a*** ... I mean half-working audio driver in Wine (like jack, NAS or ESD).

It has also been argued that the *nix world doesn't need another sound daemon. I agree with that, but pulse still exists (unlike arts and ESD), and it would be nice (at least in theory) if Wine could work seamlessly with it. pulse has the capacity to work seamlessly for most ALSA and OSS applications, but its support is not complete enough to keep Wine, Skype and some other applications/games happy.
