It seems that with wine 1.1.10, sound just works.

At least it does for me on:
pulseaudio 0.9.13 (patched)
alsa 1.0.18 (lib and driver)
AC'97 (intel8x0)

On the other hand, it seems that people on
0.9.10 complain now about extra echo...
