Bug Description

When I activate Browser or click on Amazon button (which activates Browser), Ubuntu 16.04 hangs. This occurrence should not happen.
An exception to this problem is that the mouse pointer is movable initially. In the extreme case, the mouse pointer hangs also.

This problem does not occur when activating Firefox or Chromium.
Occurs in a freshly installed Ubuntu 16.04 system.
Description: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
Release: 16.04

Status on this bug after applying updates:

1. Activating Web Browser & Amazon App leads to Web Browser crashing but did not cause Ubuntu 16.04 to hang.

2. Below are associated reports from syslog. Hope it can reveal the causes of this problem.

4) any app that depends on webbrowser-app will crash the system

5) I can only recover the system console by ssh from other device and using a sudo reboot

This problem might suggest very important vulnerability of ubuntu

Apologies for the delayed reply.

I can run Web Browser now w/o any issue. Just tested it.

Windows 7 is installed in an NTFS partition using the first half of the drive.

"@Roberto: can you please run webbrowser-app in a terminal and paste here the output? Is the application crashing, or hanging?"

No, he can't get the output, because the system is completely unresponsive. I tried to redirect terminal output to a file, but the file was empty. I did, however, take a very good picture of the screen, and can send you an image if it will help.

There are several error messages, including:
(webbrowser-app:2541): dconf-CRITICAL **: unable to create file '/run/user/1000/dconf: Permission denied. dconf will not work properly.

libGL errors
MESA-LOADER: failed to retrieve device information
Version 4 or later of flush extension not found
failed to load driver: i915

There are many other errors--too many to type unless I'm certain it will help.

I have the identical symptoms as in comment 13. System is similar except I have Inspiron with i5 processor. Same Intel graphics. I am running Ubuntu 16.04 64 bit.

The system draws the frame for the window, but the app does not draw its own space.

I am also affected.

The browser window contents does not render, system is unresponsive.
Sometimes only mouse can move and can change LED status on the keyboard (e.g. with Caps lock), but cannot even go to console or kill X system.

After rebooting, I checked /var/log/syslog and there are some errors related to GPU. Attaching it.
