Another way to reproduce the problem which shows even more how serious the bug is:
1) type into a terminal "info cat"
2) hit "/" to do a search
3) type anything and hit ENTER
you will get the error "[`ESC O m' is invalid]". This means I cannot do any regular searches in "info" dialogs in a standard Ubuntu install. Something is definitely wrong with gnome-terminal.
