The issue has returned for me too. After an update a while back it went away then an update or two later it came back but with a lesser severity. Most of the time I can launch Workstation just fine but every once in a while I still need to manually start the service. I have been using Ubuntu since 7.10 and I have to say that so far Ubuntu 10.04 LTS is the first version to disappoint me. Hopefully the next release will be less buggy.
