Bug Description

Since vlc 3.0.4, it is not possible in fullscreen to use keyboard to control anything while playing a movie once you reveal by moving the mouse the vlc window controls (bottom).

Steps to reproduce :

1)Launch a movie in fullscreen
2)move your mouse to make the vlc window controls appearing
3)Press "Space" to pause the movie or "Escape" to exit from fullscreen

Expected results : The movie is now paused if you press "Space" or the movie is not shown in fullscreen if you press "Escape".

Actual results : Nothing happens

I observed the same behaviour on a debian system I've been trying with mate and vlc 3.0.4, 3.0.5, 3.0.6. Downgrading to vlc 3.0.3 make the bug disappear.
Nevertheless, if compiz is activated this bug doesn't occurs. Observed with a intel graphic card system but also with nvidia and radeon.

Please contact vlc maintainers. This is not a ubuntu mate specific problem.

Yes it is :

1) It is not happening on other Linux DE, so it is a mate desktop specific problem
2) ubuntu mate is (I think) related to mate desktop

Yep this does appears to be related to mate's marco window manager, I opened an issue about this over there before finding this thread:

https://github.com/mate-desktop/marco/issues/514

Interesting to hear that it doesn't happen in 3.0.3, I was starting to think it had nothing to do with VLC itself but that does muddy the waters a bit if either and/or both repos could be at fault here...
