We should monitor when the setuid gets dropped and by whom.

However focal is now verified by kernel team, thus ready to release.

Perhaps its only me or i had to reboot, but this time only vbox package was updated. I had to manually update the guest additions and extension pack...

Before this bug, the first time you started virtualbox, it automatically shows a message that newer version of extensionpack, is avalaible, and if you want to update... Then it asks for delete the old version. This doesnt appear in this release of vbox.

I had to manually download Ext pack from Virtualbox download page.

Seems that installing the guest-additons package it worked with latest version.

Hi Eduardo, as pointed out earlier by Simon, the virtualbox-guest-additions-iso and virtualbox-ext-pack packages are separate and are not installed automatically. Did you have these packages installed before?

From the terminal, use "sudo apt list virtualbox*" to check their status on your system.

For my Focal system, after upgrading virtualbox to 6.1.26 from the repo, I checked from the VirtualBox GUI via Tools -> Preferences -> Extensions and found that the "VNC" extension was now on version 6.1.26 but that the "Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack" was still on version 6.1.22. Rather than downloading the latest extension pack from the oracle website and updating it in the GUI directly as I did before, this time I (first closed the GUI) installed the package for it via terminal "sudo apt install virtualbox-ext-pack" and when I went back into the GUI to check it was updated there.

Same with installing the virtualbox-guest-additions-iso package, I did not need to download the latest guest additions inside of the Guest OS, which I was prompted to do when the latest ISO could not be found before.

So long as these related packages are updated in line with the main virtualbox packages in future, then I think it will be automatic next time, but you do need to make sure they are installed on your system first.

In previous versions of vbox, before 6.1.22, i only made update and as said, when i entered the first time in new version, i got a message saying "you have a old version of extension pack. new version is avalaible do you want to install it ?" i said yes and then another message "update of ext pack was succesful. do you want to delete old version ?". And when i enter or started a new virtual machine their told that i got a newer version of guest additions.

This time as said before, and it happened the same in 6.1.24, i had to install manually the packages for ext-pack and guest additions. And ext pack didnt work, i had as said before to download and install manually the ext-pack of 6.1.26.

As said ext-pack and guest-additions package should be intalled automatically as always...

The guest addtions seems to work well, but i had to install the package manually.

Hello, I plan to update virtualbox, but not each release, because the risk of breaking things needs to be pondered with the need of a new version.

Sorry i thought that once you were able to release a new version, to update were relatively easy...Every new version takes about two months more or less....
Hope you can release the new version soon.

Thanks for your work and effort
