Oh btw, I'm using ubuntu LTS 8.04 an VirtualBox 2.1.2, i'm running virtualbox as non-root and verified that all files in ~/.VirtualBox are owned by me.

 (downloaded the deb package yesterday;
http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/2.1.2/virtualbox-2.1_2.1.2-41885_Ubuntu_hardy_i386.deb)

Also I don't see any """ExtraDataItem name="GUI/SuppressMessages"""" line in VirtualBox.xml being added.
