Bug Description

Trying to install 12.04 server into a KVM VM.

The CD image boots fine to the language selection screen but after I choose "Install Ubuntu Server" the screen goes black and stays that way.

This is using VNC to capture the output of a Cirrus virtual video adapter.

OK, this is a problem with 12.04 server i386 not behaving well with the virtual hardware presented to it.

If I enable a serial console, I get the following output:

Are you sure you have kvm enabled?

What's the output of running "kvm-ok" in a terminal?

Marc,

I'm on vacation and will get back to you on this bug when I'm back at work
(beginning of September).

KVM is working, I have other VMs working just fine, I'll get the output of
the kvm-ok command when I'm back at my (work) PC.

Cheers,

Colin

I cant use View -> Text Console -> Text console 1 in Virt-Manager.
Ubuntu-Server, as i know, After "Hello Screen" goes to text mode installation and how are you going to get text mode instalation with VNC?

Text mode installation still outputs to the standard display (not via Serial), so VNC should display this just fine.

Actually, I do have some more info:

My host is still Precise (12.04.1), I upgraded one of my VMs to 12.10. Now that VM refuses to boot and shows the same symptoms: black screen with high CPU usage.

All other VMs still work fine.

I'm considering upgrading my host to 12.10 but I'm a little wary.
