Thanks James for your debugging. It seems that using pmount actually helps to
get these DVDs working since it can assign uid and gid parameters dynamically.

Shaya, can you please check whether adding the "umask=0" option in /etc/fstab
does the trick for you as well? If that works, then d-i should just create fstab
entries for CD-ROMs which have this option by default.

Shaya, can you additionally try to remove (or, rather, comment out by prepending
a "#" sign) the CD-ROM entry in your fstab at all? Please insert the DVD
afterwards and look what the permissions are.
