I've got the same problem. The scrambled video is not during the grub menu, it starts when booting the system. I assume the vga settings used during boot confuses my monitor.

My system: CPU AMD K6+/550 MHz, Radeon 7000, 384 MB Ram, 17" LCD.

I upgraded from 5.10 where this type of problem didn't show up.
