I am having similar issues as the previous commenter (garbled orange screen as opposed to black screen), but with a different video chipset, an ATI Radeon Mobility U1. The ctrl-alt-f(1-6) combinations give me nothing but a garbled screen, and I have to use ctrl-alt-f7 to get back to X.
