That looks like it is exactly the same problem. I re-enabled usplash,
changed /etc/usplash.conf to 1280x800 and ran 'sudo dpkg-reconfigure
usplash'. Everything is working like a charm now.
So this bug is definitely a duplicate of 157758.
So the real bug is that the screen-resolution doesnt get detected
properly.
