Thanks for double-checking. Based on your research, I've looked a bit more, and it appears they will be included in Ubuntu starting with the 9.04 release (and are already in the jaunty repositories, in multiverse). I'm afraid there's no solution for earlier releases, but with the remote repo having changed, this is indeed an issue, and it has been solved for future releases. There's also a bug in that the README file is wrong, but that's a minor issue, and ought not matter once the transition is complete (with the Lenny release and the upcoming Jaunty release). In the meantime, it should be safe to use the packages from Lenny.
