Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, this problem seems unrelated to upstart or ufw.

It appears your system has been upgraded to natty from a previous release and considering some of the files in your root directory, the problem you have just observed may have been present for some time. Root ("/") itself should have permissions 755 and be owned by root:root. Additionally, it appears that your /home and /media have had their permissions changed incorrectly. You also have a stray .iso and x.org file in "/".

Regarding the permissions issues you are seeing, please answer these questions:

* Is this reproducible on a newly installed or upgraded system?
* If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?

This will help us to find and resolve the problem.
