This bug is still at large in Ubuntu 9.10, as observed on the desktop x86-64 variant.
This may not be reproducible with 'static' configurations where the automount tables are configured in files, but when they are specified in nsswitch.conf as 'automount: ldap', this fails to initialise - restarting the autofs service is needed.
If needed, let me know what area of detail is required to reproduce this.
