The bug described in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/upstart/+bug/1269405 , https://bugs.launchpad.net/eglibc/+bug/1269483 , https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/eglibc/+bug/1269500 , https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glibc/+bug/1269669 and/or https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/upstart/+bug/1271440 is still there.
In bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/upstart/+bug/1269731 it says it was fixed in upstart 1.11-0ubuntu2, but as of upstart 1.12.1-0ubuntu1, it's still there.
To install libc6, one has to add a fake telinit binary to the path, as described in one of the tickets.
See the other tickets for details. |

This bug was first described in bug #1269405 , bug #1269483 , bug #1269500 , and bug #1269669.
It affects users trying to install/upgrade libc6 using dpkg, and in my case occurred during an upgrade from 13.10 to 14.04.
bug #1271440 describes a similar problem, where the package is not libc6, but libselinux.
A workaround for the issue is described in bug #1269731. A fake telinit binary linking to /bin/true can be temporarily added to the beginning of $PATH, so that it's run instead of the real telinit in that console session.
This is an umbrella ticket filed just to get the bug reopened. Please see the other tickets for details, attachments, screenshots etc. |
