I have 11.10 32bits on my netbook, but i get the SAME error.

I try clean apt cache, remove all upgrade folders of /tmp etc... WITHOUT success

The solution is:
mount -o remount exec /tmp

Now upgrade to 12.04 with "update-manager" work perfect!
