I got almost exactly the same crash when upgrading a small number (~20) of packages. Attached is the traceback. update-manager continued to run normally and completed the upgrade.
I had just changed /etc/apt/sources.list (using the Software Sources applet) to include one of these lines:

but I forget which one. According to https:/ /wiki.ubuntu. com/DebuggingPr ogramCrash Hardy shouldn't have either of those repositories yet?
