Comment 3 for bug 569999

Are there any other differences between server and desktop mode? If the only difference is the reinstall of deselected meta packages then I think that is an OK solution and we can close this bug report.

Maybe it would be good to add some info to the help section for do-release-upgrade? Currently it just says there is a desktop and server mode, but gives no info whatsoever what that means.
