Panel disorder after hardy2lucid upgrade

When doing an LTS > LTS (hardy-lucid) upgrade the panel ends up quite disordered, as seen on screenshot, also the logout-applet is still present, which it shouldn't be.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Could you please add the log files from '/var/log/dist-upgrade/' to this bug report as separate attachments? Thanks in advance.

I had restored the system in question (virtualbox hardy) to snapshot so I went ahead and did the upgrade again, similar problems, however now a whole lot of things are also missing from the panel.

Thanks for the supporting documentation. Since this bug has enough information provided for a developer to begin work, I'm going to mark it as confirmed and let them handle it from here. Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better!
