Thanks for this thoughtful reply. I'll try it. I'm not a linux guru, but
I'll follow the instructions you give here.

In the alternative, I am planning also to download the complete .iso files,
burn it to disc and then to a new install instead of a version upgrade.
That may be another way to skin the cat.

One footnote on that is that I downloaded the file last night and after
three attempts to get the iso image onto the disk, it appeared to go on the
disk, but properties showed nothing on the disk so could not launch it. I
erased and iterated the procedure again to no avail. The erasure procedure
worked but the new copied image didn't.

This was done using InfraRecorder off the Ubuntu.com site. I'm on it today
to see if I can be successful.

Please try to remove the cdrom entry for the 8.04 version from your
sources.list file (e.g. via software-properties-kde or software-

Bug description:
Binary package hint: update-manager

After message that says basically all software sources are not available,
and user checked to see all are clicked, during download of new version 9.1
it then gives error message that 8.04 hardy heron cdrom is not located,
whereupon I entered command apt-cdrom as instructed and to no avail. Bottom
line is that the upgrade to full install of 9.1 is not accomplished.

I am trying to do a full install of the new 9.1 online while in 8.04 Hardy
Heron. I will next download, as an alternative the full package from the
Ubuntu site and boot to the CDROM and install it from the disk. See if that
works. Also, a clue is that the error message above says there is something
wrong with my wireless network connection. Did a checkout of that and do
not see anything wrong.
