Thanks for your reply.

I get the following warning from the update manager:

"W: GPG error: http://archive.ubuntu.com hoary Release: The following
signatures were invalid: BADSIG 40976EAF437D05B5 Ubuntu Archive
Automatic Signing Key <email address hidden>"

I have attached my source.list and the log file you requested.

Note that when generating the log file, the following is output to
the terminal:
