Error while upgrading Kubuntu 7.10 to 8.04

It happened during an online upgrade from Kubuntu 7.10 to 8.04

thanks for reporting this bug. I noticed that you reported a second bug almost immediately after this one. Were these errors both from the same attempted upgrade or were they separate attempts? If they are the same upgrade we can close one of these threads and continue to work in other.

Yes, they were different, but from the same attempted upgrade.

The upgrade wasn't complete, but still bootable. After removing the
package atop, deleting the affected archives in /var/cache/apt/archives
and a dpkg -a --configure, everything seems fine.

Please attach the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade to this bugreport. The kind of error that dpkg output looks like there might be a HW problem or filesystem corruption. Could you please check that?
