Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

when Java loads, it gives an unexpected error, cancels out and then the data base is blocked. Restarting the distibution upgrade causes a request for login and password, which are not recognized. Now I have an unstable system. Recommend a way to download the new ISO and load from there. Now when I want to redo the system, it wont upgrade because it states unable to etc...I am a Linux novice, looking for salvation after many windows nightmares......

qrazydutch,

thanks for taking the time to report this bug. Could you also clarify what you mean by restart the distribution upgrade, i.e. describe the specific steps you took. Also if you get a specific error message cold you give us the exact text of that error message. Finally could you attach the log files found in /var/log/dist-upgrade, these will help us figure out what is going wrong.

It sounds like you are experiencing bug 108185 or something similar but we need to confirm it. Could you have a look at that thread and see if it sounds like what you observed. If that is the case then running the following command in a terminal and following the instructions may help;

sudo dpkg --configure -a

thanks,
Rich
