Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

I received a 'Could not calculate the upgrade' error message when trying to upgrade from dapper to hardy on 2008-01-14. I was using update-manager version 0.42.2ubuntu22.2 from -proposed.

I found this in the end of the apt.log file:

"Package ubuntu-desktop has broken dep on xvnc4viewer"

This bug concerns an upgrade from Dapper to Hardy and is not related to bug 181762, subsequently I have unmarked it as a duplicate of that one.

Additionally, the "could not calculate the upgrade" error message can occur for multiple reasons. It is important to look at the log files to determine where the upgrade calculation failed.

I performed an upgrade from dapper to hardy today using the same system and xvnc4viewer was not an issue (I believe the package was removed) so I am closing this as Fix Released.
