I'll add one to this.
Mine crashes with the same problem, but using the net upgrade. I don't get a GUI coming up at all - it just all wants to run on console after the inital

"can't load DistUpgradeViewGtk (No module named UpdateManager.Common.SimpleGladeApp)"

I also had to install 2 packages to make it even get to that point: python-glade2 and python-vte.
These dependencies weren't told to me anywhere, had to figure it out for myself.
