Bug Description

Doing a search in dash for an application and then dragging the result to the application launcher menu (left side of screen) works for some apps but for "gimp" and "xournal" it creates empty "ghost" apps. If you right mouse on the ghost, it will tell you what it is supposed to launch (and it does launch) but it provides no visual feedback.

I think you mean Unity, not "launcher".

affects: launcher (Ubuntu) → unity (Ubuntu)

I called it the Launcher due to this System Setting (which calls it the Launcher).
