Sometimes an empty space that can fit an application icon appears on unity launcher. Icons of new launched applications are places after it. It also moves up if earlier launched applications are closed.

Thank you for your bug report, do you run an application or add one to the launcher when that happens? What happens if you right click on that empty space?

I did not spot the exact moment when it happened but I did not add anything to launcher.

On the right click there was a context menu: the place for application name was empty and there was 2 default options for running application - "Unlock from Launcher" and "Quit". Did you know that screenshot cannot be made when a quick list is open?
