Reproducable.
Only have firefox open in full screen mode. Update-manager displays updates in launcher, but don't open it.
Press alt+tab, mouse cursor disappears, wait 5 sec., screen blanks, then flashes, firefox appears again, launcher reveals and desktop is responsible again.
Apport reports compiz crash.
