Hi,

I am running Ubuntu 12.04 on an Asus K53S that it´s not a netbook ( actually screen resolution is 1366 x 768) and I am having the same problem too.

Funny thing is that when I run Ubunto from a CD the overlay appears without problem, it is when the system is installed that the overlay does not show.

I am a new user of linux. I just changed from windows and when I tried the CD and saw the overlay I was really happy since that really helps a lot to learn how to move in Ubuntu. The overlay going away when Ubuntu is fully installed is a real disappointment that does not make my life easy :(
