For right now, the solution in Unity 3D is to use Compiz eZoom. That said, there is Bug 762699 about the fact that eZoom currently does not magnify Unity elements (launcher, dash, etc.). So if Bug 762699 is fixed, that will fix this bug for Unity 3D.

(And then maybe we'll stop losing our users who need screen magnification!)
