Ok, got it, the behavior is consistent after reboot / gdm restart , zero results using the launcher search box or pressing application group shortcuts but pressing the Application icon on the dock bar seems to fix things. After I press it, and only then, results start showing up on the main launcher window and app groups shortcuts also produce results.

Still a bug, but there's a way out of it, hope it helps.
