Bug Description

Binary package hint: unity-place-applications

When I click on the Nautilus icon (indicated by the Home folder icon in the Unity application bar) it starts a new window only if none is already opened, and there does not seem to be a way to start a new one if I want to...

I goes back to whatever workspace contains the running window with it focused, which is a good default behavior, but I believe there could be a right click option or something for starting a new instance...

If my point is valid for Nautilus, I think it could also be done with other applications (the default behavior could still be to return to the running instance, but a new one could also be started somehow) without me going in the Alt+F2 for instance

Well, if its just to open more than one folder, you can try pressing F3
inside Nautilus... but, yes, I still wanna be able to open more than one
session of anything if so I please

You can middle click on the nautilus icon to open another instance of it. as after the current behavior is concerned its working as intended.

I cannot middle click in a notebook or netbook because those do not have a
middle button. This cannot be understood as a complete/correct solution
since one will need a three button mouse (or one with a scroll which also
clicks, as most recent mouses do), and you cannot guaranty that the users
will have such device installed on their system. For instance, I do not use
an external mouse on my netbook or notebook. :-/ I don't think I am the only
one. There got to be a better way. A more reliable (at least it looks almost
impossible to have a working system whithout one) would be a right click
menu option to show the possible new instanace... I do understand that most
Mac would not have a right click, since they have only one button in their
mouse, but they do have a well known method of "showing" such context menu,
usually with a keyborad/mouse combination (not sure which cause I do not
have an Apple yet). I hope you see my point.

I've been using Ubuntu for a few years now, and using unity, I constantly have to stop and think about how to open a new window. Searching on forums to find the right keybinding is not an acceptable solution for a new user.

According to what Mark says, we should add an option in nautilus' quicklist (https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/734170/comments/13).
