I also found that the "grid" features of unity no longer worked after this morning's update: dragging a window to the left or right edge of the screen no longer resized it to the "left-half" or "right-half" size (i.e. the full height of the screen, and half the width, snapped to the left or right edge). I enabled the "grid" setting in the "CompizConfig settings manager", which restored the feature, however I was prompted to decide about a number of keyboard shortcut conflicts. I mention this here because the symptoms occurred at the same time as this bug, and in the same area, therefore they might have the same root cause.
I got hit by this after running "apt update" this morning - I noticed Unity was one of the packages updated.
I discovered a workaround on Ask Ubuntu: https:/ /askubuntu. com/questions/ 819585/ workplace- switcher- stopped- working- in-ubuntu- 16-04 which led me to this bug. The work-around works for me.
