I drop a folder over the VLC icon in the Unity laucher. VLC started and the audio files in the folder started playing. However, if you click the Nautilus launcher icon, the program is started again as if it hasn't been started before. If you minimize all the other windows (the VLC one and the new Nautilus one), you'll find out that the first Nautilus window (with the folder which contained the audio files) is actually there.
