Thank you for taking the time in making Ubuntu better, What versión of Ubuntu are you running? since the problem seems to be integration with some apps, please indicate if they are not the versions in the repository. Please do take into consideration that a new version of GIMP (2.8) is available in Ubuntu 12.10 Beta and it would be good to test further the issues you present.
