missing apps in the place

Binary package hint: unity-place-applications

I get a lot of missing applications in the place with 0.2.8, the enclosed capture.

You can notice there that some favorite apps (like the gimp, totem), isn't showed up in installed.
Same with firefox or rhythmbox for instance, even if I'm in all apps.

You can see that mutter is shown there, (strange)
It doesn't respect XDG_DATA_DIRS which is set to /usr/share/une:/usr/share/gnome:/usr/local/share/:/usr/share/ (banshee and evolution doesn't get the express and netbook ui)

It *may* be because we are currently truncating the results inside Unity. This is because we are pretty aggressively allocating textures, and we are overflowing the graphics card. Of course this issue needs fixing - see bug #609994

At first launch, I got the all list of application installed, then, playing with unity for a minute (going to file place and such), got only few of them as in the picture;

In 0.2.12 I fixed a case where we'd sometimes create malformed queries for xapian which led to oddly truncated results.

For other apps that don't show up (eg. gnome-control-center and other gnome utils) see bug #600187
