To put it simply, installing Windows applications creates an unacceptable mess, given the current circumstances. As has been mentioned above, we don't just end up with application shortcuts, we end up with effectively orphaned readmes, help files, uninstallers, manuals, website links and all sorts of other nonsense scattered everywhere.

Please, please do something about this.
