@2vi1: Yeah, it overshoots at the bottom, too.

I found two work-arounds. From memory,

A.
1. select your wm,
2. tab (once if I recall),
3. press enter, then the dialogue window will change or go back to the log-in dialogue,
4. input your password if you haven't done so already and see yourself log into the desktop environment of your choice.

Please feel free to correct me.

B.
Another work around is to uninstall unused window managers so as to make the drop down list shorter, optimizing use of screen real estate.

Comment:
I'd like to see this fixed, but there's two temporary "solutions".

Observation:
I gather this is happening because the system's difficulty in determining my monitor's EDID, as reported at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1047156

Side Question:
Might the system's difficulty in determining EDID drastically slow down boot up? I've run various diagnostics and my HD is fine, only one fan is out, which is noted by the Apple diagnostic. This MacBook Pro used to boot fine with prior versions of Ubuntu which didn't have this TFT issue.
