I also just tried this, on a Mageia4 system, (trying to load the Ubuntu trusty server 64 iso). For me, the workaround does work - I just had to copy over /usr/lib/syslinux/libutil.c32
I think the issue is caused by a recent change in the way syslinux works http://www.syslinux.org/wiki/index.php/Library_modules
