Quick and dirty fix - created /media/$username directory, owned by $username. Now disk is mounted automatically as /media/$username/$diskname.
I figured it woldn't hurt to try Roman's quick and dirty fix. Not sure whether I was suppose to actually create the directory with my username or the actual "$username". I created one with my username and chown from root to my username.
But it works!!! My drives mount in the /media/"username"/ directory
I still have icon issues, but I'm happy usb drives mount now.
I saw this reply concerning the " Adding read ACL for uid 1000 to ' /media/$username' failed: Operation not supported" issue
