Right after submitting the bug I found additional details making my initial report rather inaccurate. Sorry about it.

Here what exactly happens.

1. If USB drive is attached or any CD is inserted in CD/DVD-ROM drive, a corresponding icon appears in Launcher, Nautilus pops up and shows content of either USB drive or CD.

2. If data or video DVD is inserted in CD/DVD-ROM drive, no icon appears in Launcher, and Nautilus does not show up.

- If then Nautilus is opened manually, but its Side Pain is set to Tree view (and this is how it is set in my case by default), DVD icon does not show up in Nautilus either.

- Only if I change Side Pain to Places view, then I finally can find the DVD icon shown there, and I can load DVD by clicking on it instead of mounting it via CLI in terminal.

- As soon as DVD is mounted as described above, its icon appears in Launcher and the icon is shown in Nautilus even if I switch back to Tree view in Side Pane.

So, there is obvious inconsistency in Unity behavior loading CD and DVD or USB drives.

P.S And BTW, another thing to note here. In all 3 cases: USB drive, CD, or DVD, as soon as they are mounted their corresponding icons appear in Launcher and on Desktop as well. Such double appearance seems to be slightly excessive. If the icon of a removable media shows up in Launcher it should not show up on Desktop.
