i don´t know weather it could help you, so i give you my information, too.

what the key should do:

FN + F8 -> brightness down
FN + F9 -> brightness up

keycodes:

FN + F9 -> 0xef
FN + F8 doesn´t give me any code, i tested all 4 methods provided at the linked page, but the key works with vista.
