Using Gnome Shell, notifications from U1 are persistent. They stay behind in the message tray until the user dismisses them. This forces the user to interact with a transient notification for no reason, and the messages are usually outdated a short time after they appear.

Please follow the guidelines at http://live.gnome.org/GnomeShell/Design/Guidelines/MessageTray/Compatibility to set the transient hint for U1's notifications. This way, the server knows to present them only briefly, like notify-osd does by default.
