It's not even a new bug. I reported ubuntuone takins 100% of CPU a while ago to the team. Then on launchpad. It's been a year now that this problem exists.

It's now April 2012 and this bug is still unassigned?
Also, not only does it consume 100% cpu, overtime it will also consume more and more memory and can in some cases easily make the machine completely run out of memory.

Has anyone tried using it in Precise? I agree that it is stupid to place more features in it without making it usable. I was also willing to use it to support the Ubuntu project, but now I have to look for competing services.

There are several new versions for Precise, one mentions memory improvements. A minor problem though, it crashes when I try to start it...

Hello,

Could you please attach the contents of the ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log directory (in an archive) - syncdaemon using all the CPU may be related to syncdaemon restarting after a fatal error.

Added the requested logs. I see most probably are from 2011. Also my distribution has been through some upgrades so it is a bit different from a clean installation.

I don't see this behavior in Precise version, so I assume it is fixed. Please reopen if anyone see this problem again in the newest version.

Marius, please don't mark bugs as fix released, particularly when the bug was not opened by you, and simply because you are not seeing it. The original report was filed from Ubuntu 11.04, and it is still a supported version of Ubuntu.

Sorry, I was one of those affected by this bug before, and I haven't seen that backport service working often yet.

After some communication with the support team the following solved the issue for me:

u1sdtool -q
rm -rf ~/.local/share/ubuntuone
u1sdtool -c

If you are trying to sync folders outside your ~/Ubuntu One folder
please open the Ubuntu One Control Panel, click on the "Cloud Folders"
tab and make sure that the folders you want to sync are checked there.

I saw this again now on another PC upgraded to Precise. Trying the workaround in comment #13.

We have bug #913912 as master of the CPU usage problems. Marking this bug as a duplicate.
If you have useful information to diagnose the CPU issues, please let us know commenting that master bug. If your problem is not related to CPU usage, please open a separate bug so we can follow up there.

Thanks a lot for your reports and comments.
