Duanedesign,

Sorry to be late getting back to you. In fact, for a day or two I myself had problems reproducing the bug I reported. I think I've got it now, though, so here 'tis.

If I create a master document by the following steps, everything works correctly:

1. open new master document
2. edit text that first appears in navigator window
3. Make this text heading 5 format (to used later to begin each document on a new page)
4. insert 3 OOWriter documents (making sure there are no headings inside them)
5. insert text between each one, formatting heading 5
6. go to Format | Styles and Formatting window, right click on heading 5 and select Modify; insert page break; click Insert | Footers and insert page number (all of this only to format my final document correctly)
7. save document as Collected_Documents.odm in Ubuntu One folder
8. opened at home; clicked yes to update all links; everything works!!??

OK, so after feeling like a fool, I tried to follow my initial steps more closely. The first time, I wanted there to be a page break in between each document, and had to fiddle some with headings (Format -> Styles and Formatting) to get these to work. While fiddling, I was editing the individual documents in my master document to get this feature to behave...

1. open new master document
2. edit text that appears in the navigator window (don't change to heading)
3. insert three OOWriter documents, with text in between
4. right click on a file name in the navigator window and select "edit." This will open the selected document in its own window. Edit something (I changed some headings into normal font text) and click "save."
5. Do this for each of the documents in the master document. (For what it's worth, I also formatted the text pieces between the documents as "heading 6.")
6. Save the master document in the Ubuntu One folder.

I did this on my work computer. Later, I tried to open the master document in question on my home computer and ran into the trouble I described in the first post. The difference between what works and what doesn't is in whether or not any editing is done on the component documents of the master document from within the master document. As such, perhaps the problem is one with OO rather than U1 (?).
