I made a verification attempt for mantic of the 1:23.10.12 changes.

While those changes are included in 1:23.10.13, the specific change in 1:23.10.13 (letting do-release-upgrade set the XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP variable) was not included in that verification and needs to be decided on separately.
