As Alexandre Moraes.
I remove the xserver-xorg-video-nouveau package then the upgrade works, from Ubuntu 14.04 using i3wm.

Full set of commands:
$ apt-get remove --purge xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
$ apt-get autoremove
$ apt-get autoclean
$ apt-get update
$ do-release-upgrade
